Good governance in investment management is rare, and sometimes hard to define. But increasingly, investors are not prepared to sit back and accept poor governance, or even the appearance of poor governance. This means that greater independence and oversight of all parties is vital.
But governance is not just about avoiding excessive conflicts of interest in the first place. It also means active management of financial structures and changing regulatory and fiscal environments, as well as changing expectations and legitimate demands from investors.
